Do Not Be Afraid

You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

In Christ Alone My Hope Is Found

"In Christ Alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand."

Emerald Green Waters

Alaska rivers are like mirrors reflecting all the beauty of the sky above and the majestic mountain peaks.  Emerald rivers flow for miles.  Is this not paradise?

"You, Lord, in the beginning
laid the foundation of the earth.
And the heavens are the
work of Your hands;
They will perish, but You remain;
And they will all grow old
like a garment;
Like a cloak You will fold them up;
And they will be changed.
But You are the same
And Your years will not fail."

Rain in the Springtime

Ask the LORD for rain in the springtime, it is the LORD who sends the thunderstorms.  He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone.

Alone in the Mountains

And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on a mountain by Himself to pray.  And when evening had come, He was alone there.

The Land of the MidNight Sun

Beautiful Alaska!  Endless sunlight living on the top of the world.

"There are strange things done in the midnight sun
by the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold..."

The Cremation of Sam Mcgee by Robert Service, 1916

The Wellspring of Life

Do not let them depart from your sight;
Keep them in the midst of your heart.
For they are life to those who find them
And health to all their body.
Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.

Proverbs 4:21-23

Heart of my Own Heart

But now your kingdom shall not endure.  The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has appointed him ruler over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.

1 Samuel 13:14

Lift My Eyes to the Mountains

I lift up my eyes to the mountains--
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip--
he who watches over you will not slumber,
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you--
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by  night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm--
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Kenai Lake Reflections

Denali National Park Scenic Tour

Savage River Loop

Highest Peak in North America

Denali is the highest peak in North America, 20,310'.  Below are excerpts from poet John Haines.  He is an Alaskan poet who is described as one of the best nature writers.

Ice Child

By John Haines (1924-2011)

Cold for so long, unable to speak,
yet your mouth seems framed
on a cry, or a stifled question.

Who placed you here, and left you
to this lonely eternity of ash and ice,
and himself returned to the dust.
fields, the church and the temple?

Was it God--the sun-god of the Incas,
the imperial god of the Spaniards?
Or only the priests of that god,
self-elected---voice of the volcano
that speaks once in a hundred years...

Under the weight of this mountain-
once a god, now only restless stone,
we find your interrupted life,
placed here among the trilobites
and shells, so late unearthed.

Denali

It was a clear day and Denali was in it's glory.  A complete view of the mountain with no clouds obstructing the view.  We were extremely lucky!  Denali has only one road, and one road entrance.  It is 92 miles long and runs from east to west.  It is a scenic road made mostly of dirt and gravel.  It starts in a low and rises and falls through mountain passes.  We saw bears in the distance as well as moose and other wild animals.
